OTTAWA, ON — The Colorado Avalanche have a tight turnaround from their last game last night. Tonight it’s the second and final matchup of the season against the Ottawa Senators.

Whenever these two teams play one another, chaos ensues. It’s been nothing but high-scoring affairs which usually entail back-and-forth battles. Almost 10 goals per game have been scored in the last seven games, totaling 69 goals.

Colorado Avalanche (41-25-3)

The Avs played well at the Scotiabank Centre in Toronto. But with a lack of 5-on-5 scoring plus some insane puck luck for the Toronto Maple Leafs, they would fall in a 2-1 final.

Colorado will look to make their opportunities count at even strength tonight. Furthermore, their play on the special teams was the difference and they’ll look to strengthen it on both sides.

With Mackenzie Blackwood getting the nod yesterday, Scott Wedgewood will likely be in the crease tonight. There’ll be no morning skate on this second leg of the back-to-back, hence the lines for tonight put out by Jared Bednar will be discovered during warmups.

Ottawa Senators (36-26-5)

Ottawa is on a tear and thoroughly competing for a wild card spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in a month’s time. However, they lost to another Eastern Conference team vying for a playoff spot in the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night 6-3.

That loss snapped a six-game win streak for the Sens, who are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. It’s vaulted the Senators from out of the playoffs to comfortably in the first wild card spot with 77 points. They’re four points ahead of the aforementioned Canadiens. Furthermore, they’re five points ahead of the first team out, the New York Rangers.

Center Tim Stutzle leads the way with 68 points in 67 games. Jake Sanderson isn’t too far behind with 55 points in as many games. Plus Brady Tkachuk has recovered from his Four Nations Face-Off injuries and lead the line alongside those three. Can they get back to winning ways over a tired and depleted Avs side?
