For the second straight game, the Colorado Avalanche will rematch against the New Jersey Devils. Unlike Sunday’s loss, the game will take place at Ball Arena in Denver.
Ten games into the year, the Avalanche have seen what they’ve got and what’s worked and hasn’t worked. They even got a glimpse of Sunday afternoon’s matchup and will make changes for tonight’s affair.
Colorado Avalanche (5–1–4)
After Sunday afternoon’s 4–3 loss in overtime, it marked four straight losses for the Avs. But three out of four losses came beyond regulation, meaning Colorado at least took home a point.
Their lone regulation loss so far this season was the day before the Devils’ matchup, the first leg of a back-to-back against the Boston Bruins. Otherwise, points in nine of the first 10 games are a solid start for the Avalanche. Plus, there’s an outside chance Mackenzie Blackwood returns tonight for his first appearance of the season.

Led by the usual suspects of Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas, averaging over a point per game to start the year, they’ll look to keep the momentum going. Artturi Lehkonen and Cale Makar are also achieving the same feat. With help from a revamped second line, the pieces might just start coming together.

New Jersey showed why they are the best team in the league at the moment on Sunday afternoon. They took their chances against Colorado and used the star power of Jack Hughes to capitalize on mistakes as the NHL’s Third Star of the Week.

After losing the season-opener to the Carolina Hurricanes, the Devils won their second game of the season and seven straight games since. They’ll look to be on the edge of double-digit wins after Tuesday evening’s game.
The start of a four-game West Coast road swing for New Jersey is an excellent opportunity for them to keep their lead atop the Metro Division. Jack and Luke Hughes have the firepower to sweep the season series over the Avs and look to complete just that this evening.
