October ends for the Colorado Avalanche with a Halloween afternoon matchup on the Strip against the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas will celebrate its annual Nevada Day in this matchup, sure to be an advantage for the home team.
Meanwhile, Colorado will look for an upset against a tough side. In the first leg of a back-to-back for the Avs, any points off another big Western Conference opponent will be of tremendous help.
Colorado Avalanche (6–1–4)
Colorado snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday night, putting up eight goals against the red-hot New Jersey Devils. In addition, the game stopped New Jersey’s eight-game win streak, which included a win against the Avs on Sunday.
Victor Olofsson led the way with his first career hat trick, along with two assists. Those five points doubled his season total up to that point. Against his former team, he’ll look to provide even more depth for the Avs.
However, top-heavy talent will remain prominent. Martin Necas, freshly signed to a new contract, will look to add to his hot start to the season as his team eyes a second straight win. In addition, we might see the first appearance of the season for Mackenzie Blackwood after offseason surgery
Martin Necas, signed to an 8x$11.5M extension by COL, is a dynamic offensive winger with elite speed, puck skills, and creativity. Carries the puck end-to-end, beating defenders one-on-one and attacking off the rush, but also deadly off extended possessions and cycles. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/0iH6jan4LR

Vegas Golden Knights (6–1–3)
Vegas has also had a solid start to the season, coming off a 6–3 win against the Carolina Hurricanes to cap off a three-game road trip on Tuesday night. The road trip wasn’t as successful as they’d hoped, however, as they dropped two of those three games.
One of those games was a shutout against the battered Florida Panthers. This trip home couldn’t have come at a better time, as this game against the Avs is the first of a season-long six-game home stand.
Jack Eichel, also signed to a new contract, has been lighting the league on fire. He’s averaging almost two points per game, with eight goals and 11 assists through 10 games. They will be without some big names, though. This includes Mark Stone, Noah Hanifin, Alex Pietrangelo, and Adin Hill.
Once again, the Golden Knights are facing some devastating injuries to start the season. Is this the start of another concerning trend? #VegasBorn https://t.co/EpwaddydCb
