The hope of the Colorado Avalanche getting their captain back soon may have just gone out the window. Colorado endured a few injuries during the recent games. The biggest being those of Gabriel Landeskog and Devon Toews. The one thing we have not heard about those two was a timeline. Colorado has been lucky this season, with several players missing a few games here and there other than Logan O’Connor.
Bednar says Landeskog and Toews are back in Denver and Landy will miss “some weeks.” Toews is “week to week” and his injury isn’t as serious as the captain’s. Will know more Thursday for them and Blackwood.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/ab1gmfD0m4

Gabriel Landeskog
During the game on Sunday night against the Florida Panthers, Landeskog toe-picked and had a scary fall into the goal post. He was down in obvious pain for several minutes and needed help to get off the ice. The immediate worry was that he had injured his knee again. Later in the third period, the Avalanche announced it was an upper-body injury and he would not return to the game. Many analysts, including myself, believe that Landeskog may have some broken ribs.

Some updates have been trickling in about the captain, but not much. Team Sweden has already been in contact with Colorado and Landeskog. They have said it was a positive update, while head coach Jared Bednar said that he will “miss some weeks.” As for what that does for Landeskog’s Olympic status is yet to be determined.
Devon Toews
In the previous game against Carolina, Toews took a nasty spill in the corner himself. He went in feet first, so everyone held their breath that he did not break something. Toews would try to tough it out, but then did not play the next day in Florida because of an upper-body injury. The defenseman is due to go to the Olympics for Team Canada, and this could put that in jeopardy. He is only week-to-week, but it could push the timeline for the start of the Olympic Games.

Both Landeskog and Toews have travelled back to Denver ahead of the rest of the team. They will get re-evaluated during the week, and we could get even more information on Thursday. We may also receive an update on goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood and Joel Kiviranta on Thursday morning. Both stayed behind on the road trip and are hopeful of playing against Ottawa on Thursday.
