The Colorado Avalanche gave a splendid gift to their fans by reaching 60 points in a 1–0 win over the Utah Mammoth. Once again, it wasn’t the prettiest game in the world, but they got the job done.
Colorado keeps on rolling as they stay undefeated on home ice in regulation this season. The historic start kept on going, and it might be the best gift of all for the fans so far this season.

Sam Girard scored the opening goal of the game beautifully. He was able to steal the puck in the neutral zone and put it top shelf with his backhand. Sneakily, he’s got six points in his last six games. Girard continues doing what he does best: being a solid defender while chipping in offensively. Once again, it’s showing how much of a steal he is and how the organization shouldn’t even consider moving him.

The man of the hour, however, was none other than Scott Wedgewood. He finished the night with 29 saves in a shutout win. Utah was dangerous, often throughout the night, and Wedgewood stood tall. On three separate occasions, he stopped Mammoth players on the breakaway. One stop was close to the goal line, which was reviewed but stood as no goal. With him and Mackenzie Blackwood racking up the saves nightly, the Avalanche goaltending duo remains heavily intact.

The Arizona Coyotes/Utah Mammoth organization has always been a thorn in the Avs’ side. Tuesday night was no different in terms of competitiveness and closeness. All three games this season between the two teams have been decided by only one goal. For Utah, the loss hurts its chances of climbing back into the playoff picture. For the Avalanche, every point is important with the likes of the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild chasing. With Dallas falling to the Detroit Red Wings in overtime earlier on Tuesday, Colorado has gained a point in their advantage atop the Central Division.
