The Colorado Avalanche got their revenge against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday in a 6–2 victory. Logan O’Connor had a strong season debut, playing over 15 minutes the entire game. The pesky forward may have been gone for 69 games, but he tried his best to make it look like he had not been. Ross Colton also returned to the lineup after missing nine games himself.

Logan O’Connor returned to the lineup on Tuesday night and made an immediate impact. In the first period alone, we saw the biggest impact from the winger. During four minutes and thirty seconds of ice time in the first period, O’Connor confronted a Penguin player following a hit he disliked. He connected with Nazem Kadri to assist on Parker Kelly’s 16th goal of the season. O’Connor added 11:05 minutes of ice time in the additional two periods, 2:55 of it on the penalty kill.

Scott Wedgewood held firm for the Avalanche, only allowing two goals on 32 shots. The two goals that Wedgewood allowed in were on weird bounces or the bottom dropped out. Egor Chinakhov’s goal, for example, the puck looked like it dropped off a ledge or acted like a sinker ball in baseball. Throughout the rest of the game, Wedgewood played strongly on the post. With this game, Wedgewood may have made an excellent case to be “the goalie” for the Avalanche to end the season or even the playoffs.

Martin Necas continues to be one of the Avalanche’s hottest forwards. Whit his pair of goals on Tuesday night, he has tallied points in 13 of 15 games since the Olympics. In that same span, Necas has scored 12 goals and added 14 assists to the scoresheet.
