DENVER — Both the Colorado Avalanche and the Calgary Flames are looking to recover from disappointing losses on Saturday night. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the playoff picture is becoming clear. The Avalanche will probably play the Dallas Stars while the Flames have nothing to lose. The Flames sit too far back in the standings that they probably will not catch the Edmonton Oilers. Former Avs center Nazem Kadri leads the Flames in points (58) and goals (30) for the season, so he will be the player to watch on Monday night.

Colorado Avalanche (45–26–3)

The St. Louis Blues came out of the gate firing on all cylinders against the Avalanche Saturday. With the Blues in a desperate battle to maintain their Wild Card spot, the Avs knew it was going to be a rough one. Special teams became the name of the game for the afternoon. The Blues had four power play chances in the game, converting on one of them. Zack Bolduc scored on their first chance of the night as Parker Kelly watched on from the penalty box. Nathan MacKinnon scored two minutes later, giving Colorado some help. Colorado had trouble getting anything going in the third with three penalties stemming any momentum. Jordan Binnington stepped up under the pressure of the Avalanche gained the 2–1 win for the Blues.

The Battle of Alberta did not disappoint on Saturday night in Edmonton. What always seems to be a bloody beat down turned into a battle of attrition. The Flames are seven points out of the Wild Card with 10 games to go, but their pride was on the line. Yegor Sharangovich opened up the scoring early in the first period, but the Edmonton Oilers answered back twice later on. Edmonton had to fight back without the help of Connor McDavid since he had been out with an injury. The Flames pushed the game all the way to overtime and would fall 3–2.
