HENDERSON, NEVA. — After dropping their second straight game on the road yesterday, the Colorado Eagles were looking for some revenge against the Henderson Silver Knights (VGK). Yesterday, Henderson limited Colorado to a meager 14 shots, but today Colorado turned things around. The Eagles scored four unanswered goals to win the game 5-1. Here are my takeaways from the revenge win over the Silver Knights.

Takeaways

Colorado kept the pressure on the Silver Knights, but they could not do much with it. Colorado kept the puck in the Henderson zone for a minute at a time but got no shots on goal. During the entire first period, the Eagles only had three shots on net. They struggled to get the puck down low in the zone and force any pressure on goaltender Akira Schmid.

The second period is when things turned around for the Eagles. They scored three goals on just seven shots on goal in less than 10 minutes. Matthew Phillips started the pressure less than 90 seconds into the second. The biggest thing that Colorado lacked in the opening frame was pressure on the crease. Phillips crashed the net and shoved in the opening goal. The Eagles did not let up on the gas pedal, adding two more goals from Jere Innala and Jacob MacDonald.

Goaltender Trent Miner got the Eagles back on track with 23 saves on 24 shots on goal. The only goal that he allowed was a shot he that he had trouble holding onto while a Silver Knight ran into him. Chris Wagner (was a healthy scratch, but doing color commentary) said that he thought it should have been goaltender interference. Because of the lack of equipment in the AHL, they do not call it very often. Miner has four wins over his last five starts in net, including back-to-back shutouts last weekend.

The win currently puts the Eagles in a tie for first place with the Coachella Valley Firebirds (SEA) in the Pacific Division. Colorado also has two games in hand over them, one which will burn Wednesday.

Upcoming
