CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Colorado Avalanche edge closer to improved health with each passing day. The Colorado Avalanche have not played a game since November 16th and have been resting up since. In the meantime, news of Logan O’Connor and his setback came out. But, we have some good news to report on Wednesday from practice for our Brennan’s Beat. The second forward’s comeback progresses; his play might resume later during the week.
Joel Kiviranta return
Forward Joel Kiviranta joined the Avalanche for their Wednesday morning practice. This was the first time that he had joined the team since October 16th. Joel Kiviranta, after that, suffered a lower-body injury, and was attempting a return. During practice, he still wore a non-contact sweater and joined the fourth line. The team also included him on the second penalty-kill unit. This typically shows his return will happen soon.

Valeri Nichushkin update
The Russian was on the ice prior to the team skating in a red non-contact sweater. This was the first time that Valeri Nichushkin has skated since his lower-body injury on November 11th against Anaheim. Head coach Jared Bednar said on Wednesday morning that they still listed him as week-to-week.

The crucial question is still there. Who will get bumped from the lineup once Kiviranta, Nichushkin and / or O’Connor all come back? Gavin Brindley was skating on the second line again on Wednesday and has shown that he has tremendous value to Colorado. Right now, fans can plan that Kiviranta will play on the fourth line once he returns. Based on Wednesday’s skate, the Avalanche will probably have to call-up a player from the Colorado Eagles for the game on Thursday. With Taylor Makar being ineligible for call-up, Tristen Nielsen will be the likely candidate. If the Avalanche are giving players a look, Tye Felhaber may get a chance with his two goals over the past weekend. Ether way, someone is probably going to get called up.
