Jordan Binnington had a no-good, terrible night against the Colorado Avalanche, who lit him and the St. Louis Blues up in a 6–1 win on Saturday night. The Avalanche came out flying and never looked back for their second win of the season.
Seven players had multi-point nights, with two more players recording at least a point as well. Colorado’s play was stellar across the board and ended this game before it even really got started for the visitors.

The offense for the Avalanche continued to run rampant. After their big win over the Los Angeles Kings to open the season, Colorado continued it with six more goals on Saturday night to tie the most goals in franchise history through the first two games. The six goals came before the end of the second period.

However, perhaps the only thing missing was the offense on special teams. The Avs scored on both the penalty kill and power play against LA, but were left blank on both against St. Louis. Rather, the offense shown by the home team was what we saw a lot of last season: dominance at even strength, and just superior play in all facets of the game.
They got plenty of help from the Blues; however. They played just 24 hours ago against the Dallas Stars, in which they got a shutout win. But coming into a back-to-back to open the season against a rested Avalanche side meant it wasn’t much of a contest.
Binnington didn’t help his or his team’s case to stay in the game either. In the second period, he gifted Colorado two goals on misplays. His first mistake was a pass up the ice, which Artturi Lehkonen put in.

Next up, Binnington attempted to play the puck behind the net and missed it. This led to Gabriel Landeskog finding Martin Necas for his second goal of the game and a point in Landeskog’s 800th career game.
On the other side of the ice, Mackenzie Blackwood looked solid and more comfortable than he did against the Kings. While he wasn’t pressured as much, he stepped up when called upon to get the win.
After struggling last season, there were questions whether he’d be able to step back into the starter’s role. Scott Wedgewood, Ilya Nabokov, and Trent Miner have been waiting in the wings. However, he’s demonstrated why he’s the starter with a nice start to the season.
