The Colorado Avalanche are just starting their 30th season since relocating to Denver, Colorado. The club has said that they are going to be doing several celebrations throughout the season and that a new jersey is going to be one of them. Colorado has used several jerseys to celebrate its past, with its first in 2015. There have been several rumors from Jesse Montano and Adrian Dater that a new jersey for the Avalanche could come soon with the Avalanche throwing a tease or two in as well.

The first jersey that tied back to the Avalanche’s history technically had no ties to the franchise at all. Their third jersey, which had been in use at least through last season, had ties to the Colorado Rockies. This team moved to New Jersey in 1982 and eventually became the New Jersey Devils. The logo on the Avalanche’s third jersey honored hockey in Colorado, and that meant… the Colorado Rockies.
In 2021, the NHL came out with a Reverse Retro series of jerseys to be worn on limited occasions during the season. Colorado took this as the first opportunity to go back to its real roots. The Avalanche used a Quebec Nordiques-style jersey with the colors of the Avalanche. It became one of the top-selling jerseys in the NHL and was a hit among fans. Ever since then, Avalanche fans have been begging for another Nordiques-style jersey.

Over the last week, the Avalanche have been teasing fans with posts on their socials. On October 5th, there were minor adjustments to the blue helmet showing the old orange NHL shield. On Friday, there was a post of gear in a locker room stall. This included pants with the Nordiques logo and gloves with extra white markings. All indicators suggest that a new Nordiques jersey is coming soon.

If the Avalanche release a new Nordiques-inspired jersey, this could be one of the top-selling jerseys in the league again. The rumor of the new jersey has been floating on the internet for over a year and made fans that much hungrier for it. Colorado practiced in their old third jerseys on Friday, so the teasing may just continue. We will have to wait and see, but this could be the best Avalanche alternate jerseys to date.
