Hockey continues inching closer for the Colorado Avalanche. As it does, so do predictions about the upcoming season.
Part two of predicting their record in the 2025-26 season is here. Part one of this series saw them come out with a 5-4-1 record and an even start.
October 27 vs. New Jersey Devils (5-4-1)
The second leg of a home-and-home with the Devils to wrap up the season series will see Colorado come out with a win. After falling on the second leg of a back-to-back at the Prudential Center, I think home ice for the Avalanche will prevail.
October 31 at Vegas Golden Knights (6-4-1)
A Friday afternoon affair for Nevada Day on Halloween will set up for some weird circumstances and matchups for the Avalanche. Plus, history is not on Colorado’s side in Vegas. They’ve always had issues against them, particularly in last year’s season opener. Usually, at least one game is a high-scoring affair at the T-Mobile Arena, and I see this one being so. On a special occasion for the Golden Knights, the Colorado Avalanche come out with a loss in this one.
November 1 at San Jose Sharks (6-5-1)
Another back-to-back stare the Avs in the face, again with travel. Luckily for them, it’s against the San Jose Sharks, who are going to be the far inferior team. While Colorado has had their issues against San Jose, it should come out with a nice rebound win.
November 4 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (7-5-1)
A quick one-game homestand comes against the Lightning in a Stanley Cup Final rematch comes next for Colorado. Around this time last season, the Avalanche were on a skid and only fell further with a pretty lackluster game. It saw Matthew Stienburg get suspended.

• Stienburg received a charging major and a game misconduct (will have a hearing with DoPS today, according to tx/nhlplayersafety)
• Anthony Cirelli received a roughing minor https://t.co/xrfnXQ14c4 pic.twitter.com/b4KeLqSTWH— HockeyFights.com (@hockeyfights) October 31, 2024
But this time around in the season, Colorado has been faring nicely in this prediction. If anything, this kicks off a nice stretch for them with a second straight win.
November 8 at Edmonton Oilers (8-5-1)
This game is the first of another back-to-back, Colorado’s third of the year. Of course, Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are no joke.
Mixed with Edmonton’s slow starts in years past, and the recent run of form the Avalanche are on in this prediction, I’m making my first big prediction of the year: Nathan MacKinnon scores a game-winning hat-trick in a high-scoring affair beyond regulation – similar to this goal by Artturi Lehkonen.

November 9 at Vancouver Canucks (9-5-1)
Off the back of an overtime game in Edmonton and another late-night game in British Columbia, I see this game also being intriguing. I could also see this going to overtime yet again, but the Colorado Avalanche being unlucky beyond regulation again in the first battle of the year between Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes.
November 13 vs. Anaheim Ducks (9-5-2)
This Tuesday night matchup is the first of four home games for the Avs, which should be a successful one with the teams they’ll face. With the Ducks still swimming around at the bottom of the Pacific, Colorado comes out with a nice win in front of the home crowd.
November 15 vs. Buffalo Sabres (10-5-2)
Colorado will wrap up its season series against Buffalo in the middle of this homestand. While it’s sure to not be as chaotic as both Sabres games last season, Bo Byram and Tage Thompson will look to make up for their loss at home against the Avalanche back in early October.
They’ll come close to succeeding again, making things close. But a big goal from another middle-six forward – like Jonathan Drouin’s game-tying goal in the closing seconds of last year’s game at Ball Arena – will propel the Avs forward to a second straight win.

November 16 vs. New York Islanders (11-5-2)
Patrick Roy makes his second appearance behind the bench for the Isles in his second game back in Denver in this Sunday night matchup. It will also be the first time Brock Nelson faces his former side since being traded last spring.
Cal Ritchie could make an appearance in a return to Colorado, but he has to make the team first. Even if he does, the Isles aren’t in the right space to perform, leading the Avalanche to a third straight win.
November 20 vs. New York Rangers (12-5-2)
The second New York metro-area team comes to Denver, with Colorado having three days’ rest after a long stretch of games. While Alexandar Georgiev is no longer on the team to perform against his former Rangers teammates, the Avalanche should prevail for a fourth straight win.
After 20 games in this prediction, the Colorado Avalanche are sitting pretty with a 13-5-2 record. After a slow start to open the season, I think they’ll find their feet in the second 10-game stretch, going 8-1-1 with an eight-game point streak.
