The Colorado Avalanche will play in its penultimate game of the regular season against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. It marks the second leg of a back-to-back for Colorado, the final one of the season.
This also marks the final game of the season series against the Flames, with all three games taking place in the last three weeks. Colorado has taken both games thus far against Calgary, winning their penultimate game of the season series against them back on April 9.
Colorado Avalanche (53–16–11, 117 pts)
The Avs took their last game against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. It took hitting four posts in overtime and going perfect in the shootout to win 2–1.
Valeri Nichushkin, Martin Necas, and Nathan MacKinnon scored the three goals in the skills competition. One of those three might get a rest in Calgary. Should that happen, Artturi Lehkonen might slot back in after resting and not playing against Edmonton. There is also an outside chance Cale Makar could return after attending morning skate in a regular jersey but not playing in Edmonton.
While Colorado has nothing to play for, there is pride on the line. In addition, they are only two points away from tying their franchise record for most points in a single season, set in 2022. A win can see them reach the historic mark.
The @Avalanche won their 53rd game, the 2nd most victories in a single season in franchise history. Colorado’s 117 points are now just 2 shy of tying the 2021-22 team (119) for the highest total in a single season in franchise history pic.twitter.com/vtpjJ2cIS2

Calgary Flames (33–38–9, 75 pts)
Calgary is playing its penultimate game of the season on Tuesday as well. This game marks the second game of a three-game homestand to wrap up the season.
The Flames have nothing to play for except draft lottery odds, but still showed up and showed out against the playoff-bound Utah Mammoth with a 4–1 win on Sunday. The victory stopped a three-game skid.
After losing both games to Colorado earlier this season, they will look to take at least one game away from the best team in the league. Is tonight the night for the Flames to melt the Avalanche?
