The Colorado Avalanche host the Detroit Red Wings in the second leg of their doubleheader on Monday night. The age-old rivals will finish up the season series this evening as well.
Colorado will look for a repeat of their game on Saturday in the Motor City. They motored the Red Wings in a dominant 5–0 win and look to take game two of the doubleheader.
Colorado Avalanche (36–8–9, 81 pts)
The Avalanche eclipsed 80 points in their win on Saturday. Similar to last Sunday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs to open the last road trip, it was a solid get-right victory.
Nathan MacKinnon looked like his old self as he led the line with three points and was inches away from a hat-trick a few times. Mackenzie Blackwood, who was robbed of his shutout in Toronto, got it this time in Detroit to wrap up the four-game road trip.

This game is the penultimate one before the long Olympic Break. Colorado has a nice two-game home stand to wrap things up. They’ll look to end it on the right foot with a second straight win, perhaps without Martin Necas again, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. But the Avs could see the return of Devon Toews to the lineup after he has missed a few games because of an upper-body injury.
Devon Toews is on the ice for morning skate.
Avs sent down Keaton Middleton after last game and haven’t recalled another defenseman.

Detroit Red Wings (32–18–6, 70 pts)
The Red Wings are looking for any points they can get in a tight race out East. They currently sit second in the Atlantic Division, trying to break their playoff slump.
Whichever goalie ends up getting the nod will also look to rebound. Former Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson was solid until Saturday, and Cam Talbot had his struggles in relief.
Frankly, the entire team will look to rebound. They had a hard time against an angry and hungry Colorado team. In the second game of this doubleheader, they’ll look to at least find the twine and get back in the win column.
