LOVELAND, Colo. — A bounce back game at home is just what the Eagles needed to get back to business.

The atmosphere, both in the arena and on the ice, was more upbeat and certainly had more energy. The road trip took a toll on the team, and it showed in yesterday’s 3–2 loss.

Chris Wagner was previously on a nine game point streak. The first period was as good a time as any to extend it by one more game. On an unintentional empty net from the Bakersfield Condors, the Eagles took an early lead and emerged victorious 4–3.

Takeaways

The Condors have been battling to stay in the running for a playoff position. Though Colorado is in a very favorable position, Bakersfield may be a more dangerous opponent because of their desperation to make it to the postseason.

“You know, we feel like we’re a deeper team,” Wagner said. “But I think they competed as hard, if not harder than us last night. I thought we were a little better tonight. But you know, the teams like that, they’re literally fighting for their lives. So yeah, it’s a tough opponent, and you don’t want to play down to anybody, but we have to respect everybody at the same time.”

The Eagles couldn’t afford to take the night off. The consistency from play to play and period to period was exactly what was to be expected from a team in a first place position.

This season, the identity of the Colorado Eagles is that of offensive power from both forwards and defensemen alike. Wagner and Jacob MacDonald went for back-to-back points and succeeded, and William Dufour has been fitting in well, which is a pleasant surprise to many Colorado Avalanche fans. He has accumulated one goal and one assist during his three game tenure with Colorado.

The team corrected many errors from last night. The Condors did not get to take advantage of their four man-advantages. Colorado capitalized on one of their four and also added a shorthanded goal from Tye Felhaber to the scorecard.

There were still improvements to be made. The game featured a lot of needless mistakes, one nearly costing them the game. John Ludvig closed his hand around the puck at the end of the third period, allowing the Condors to swarm goaltender Adam Scheel, who posted 22 of 25 saves.
