The Colorado Eagles have filled their crease for the year. Up through Wednesday, there were questions about who was going to be the backup to Trent Miner. Before now, Isak Posch was going to be the backup with only two games of AHL experience. The Eagles have signed goaltender Kyle Keyser who spent last season in the KHL with Kunlun Red Star.

The six-foot-two inch netminder last appeared in the AHL with the Providence Bruins (BOS) and posted a 3.45 goals allowed average. In just five games with the Bruins, Keyser had a .873 save percentage, his lowest in the AHL. Throughout his career Keyser has seen some success in net. He has played 73 games in the AHL with a career .902 save percentage.

Keyser has played some time with the Maine Mariners (BOS) and the Atlanta Gladiators (NSH) of the ECHL. There he did not see that great of numbers with a high goals against average of 3.31. His save percentage took a dip as well, staying at .891 over 42 games.

The junior level was where Keyser stood out the most. He helped the United States with the silver medal in the World Junior Championships in 2018–19. While playing with the Flint Firebirds and the Oshawa Generals, Keyser had a 71–40–7 in 142 OHL games.

The American-born goalie waits for the puck to come to him. He often will hold the crease and dive at the last moment for the puck. If you like fancy saves, he may be the one for you.

Keyser will serve as Miner’s backup until Ilya Nabokov can come over from his loan to his KHL team. He may even serve as the backup as Nabokov gets comfortable in Colorado and with the organization. Unfortunately, it was a necessary step with the lack of experience backing up Miner at the moment.
