The Colorado Avalanche completed the season sweep over the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night in a 3–1 win at the Saddledome. The season sweep saw the Avs beat the Flames three times in the last three weeks, outscoring them 15–4.
Colorado continues heading into the playoffs high with nothing to play for in the regular season. Nathan MacKinnon scored his 53rd goal of the season to extend his career high, and Martin Necas recorded his 100th point of the season with the assist on the empty-net goal to close it out.
THAT IS 💯FOR MARTY NECAS! He gets the assist on MacKinnon’s empty-net goal to reach 100 points for the first time in his career! #Avs #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/OIh903j7zJ

This was a pretty slow and ugly game, which felt more like a preseason game. It took until the second period for a team to score, which was Calgary on a fluky deflection by Blake Coleman. However, neither team had much to play for in this game, with almost everything set for both sides. Two new guys who entered the fray in this game did sweep in and make an influence; however.
Cale Makar slotted back in, returning from injury, giving Devon Toews the night off after playing 31 minutes against the Edmonton Oilers. Likewise, Artturi Lehkonen came in after resting just 24 hours ago and gave Brock Nelson the night off. Makar led a nice drive down the ice to find Lehkonen in front to equalize in the middle frame. With almost all certainty, Makar made an immediate impact and will continue to do so heading into the playoffs. The same could also be said about Lehkonen after his performance in this game.
GOOD STICK LEHKY! Cale Makar with the beautiful pass for Artturi Lehkonen to finish the play and tie the game at 1! Sam Malinski gets the secondary assist #Avs #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/dR4CKgg83k

While things were looking like they were heading in the same direction as they did in Edmonton just a day before, the Avs made sure it didn’t happen. Brett Kulak had a shot deflected down low by none other than Gabriel Landeskog for the late third-period lead. The victory has propelled Colorado to tie its franchise record in points with 119. However, they still do not know their first-round opponent. Thanks to the Anaheim Ducks’ loss to the Minnesota Wild, the matchup will be decided on the final day of the regular season. The Avalanche can still face the Ducks, Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, or Utah Mammoth.
