Fans of the Colorado Avalanche were optimistic about avoiding injuries at the start of the season. The return of Gabriel Landeskog, the captain, influenced the fan’s mindset. Absences from the team hurt fan confidence, a situation Monday did nothing to remedy. Several players missed Monday’s practice, and it could have a significant impact on the lineup for Tuesday’s game against Vancouver.
An illness has hit the room
NHL team schedules have featured difficulties thus far. There have been six back-to-back series for the Avalanche totaling 12 games. All but one game were on the road. Keep in mind that the Avalanche have only played 25 games this season. So half of their games have been on back-to-backs. With the condensed schedule, players are feeling the wear and tear on their bodies. An illness caused several players to miss practice on Monday because it spread through the locker room. Parker Kelly, Gabriel Landeskog, and Nathan MacKinnon were all absent from practice with an illness. There has been no word about whether they will be available for the contest on Tuesday night.
Per the team, these players will NOT practice today:

Progress is progress
Forward Valeri Nichushkin skated for the second time in a full-contact sweater on Monday. He has been out with a lower-body injury since November 11. He has been skating with the team for about a week, and his return would strengthen an already explosive top-six group. Forward Gavin Brindley was also out on the ice in a red non-contact sweater before the team. He has been skating on his own since at least since Saturday. He has been out with a lower-body injury after getting hit into the boards on November 22.

What does this mean?
This could mean that Avalanche may have to call-up a couple of players from the Colorado Eagles. Taylor Makar had a two-goal night on Friday and might get rewarded for it. Tye Felhaber had a shorthanded goal and has been hot lately. Either way, we will probably see a call-up and the return of Nichushkin on Tuesday.
