Things are looking up for forward Logan O’Connor. Our last update was that he had suffered a soft tissue injury not related to hip surgery about a month ago. Since then, we have gotten very little to no information on his recovery and timeline to his return. Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette probably put it best: the Logan O’Connor situation is as clear as mud. But on Monday morning, O’Connor took to the ice after the Avalanche finished up their practice. He was out skating for about thirty minutes with the skills coach and looked pretty good. He did some stick handling and some skating, but nothing too serious.

O’Connor underwent hip surgery after the Colorado Avalanche were knocked out of the playoffs in May. The team had put his recovery time at five or six months. This would have put O’Connor back in the lineup as soon as November to early December. But as all things go, that was not the case. The window came and went, and the chances of his return in November leaked bleak. Since then, the recent injury has kept the gritty forward off the ice.

Fans have been worrying if this recent injury is worse than what the team has been saying. O’Connor had hip surgery on the opposite side in the spring of 2024, so there is cause for concern.

The Avs have missed his forecheck in the bottom half of the lineup. If he joins Ross Colton and Gavin Brindley on the same line, they would form a dangerous combo.

It has been over three years since the Avalanche have not had a player on the injured-reserve. Gabriel Landeskog missed three entire seasons because of his knee injury and has returned to full action. Unfortunately, O’Connor has seen no action yet this season and there is still no timeline for his return.
