The Colorado Avalanche have signed undrafted college free-agent Matthew DiMarsico from Penn State University. The forward signed a two-year, entry-level contract that will start in the 2026–27 season. Until then, DiMarsico joins the Colorado Eagles under an AHL contract for the rest of this season.

DiMarsico has spent the last three seasons with the Nittany Lions, improving his stats every season in the NCAA. This season, he scored 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 37 games. He would play 111 career games at Penn State with 42 goals and 58 assists for 100 points. He would end his collegiate career averaging just under a point per game.

Prior to his collegiate career, the Wexford, Pennslyvania native played one season for the Green Bay Gamblers. While playing in the USHL, he was teammates with 2022 Draft Pick Chris Romaine. In 46 games with the Gamblers, DiMarsico would rack up 46 points (21g/21a) in 59 games.

His type of game

DiMarsico plays the game exactly the way you want him to. He can focus on the opposition and force turnovers anywhere on the ice. The gritty forward not only brings consistent pressure with his game, but skills to come with it. Offensively, DiMarsico can keep his head up while shooting the puck, enabling him to see the net during his nasty snap shot. He also shows no fear of getting into the “dirty areas” offensively. DiMarsico will drive down the slot and to the high-danger zone for a shot with ease.

Both the Avalanche and the Eagles have struggled with their neutral zone play. Adding another player who refuses to give up on the forecheck and backcheck with help solve the problem. Logan O’Connor is a perfect example of a college player who learned at the University of Denver that defense will win games. If DiMarsico can add more of a two-way element to the Eagles to start his career, I see nothing but success in the Colorado system.
