On Monday afternoon, the Colorado Avalanche released its training camp roster. Other than a couple of names, there were not really any surprises on the list. The team did not invite any players on a PTO basis, as they had no room in the salary cap or active contracts. I am sorry to say that Erik Johnson was not even offered a PTO, according to multiple sources. There are really only one or two spots on the fourth line that are up for contention this training camp with Logan O’Connor out. So, the competition among the top-six AHL forwards will be intense. Other than the expected NHL names, some Colorado Eagles and juniors invites are on the list.

Junior invites

All the junior players’ rights belong to the Avalanche except one at the moment. Goaltender Mathis Langevin received an invitation to development and rookie camps. He will play for the Rimouski Océanic of the QMJHL next season. Last season, he posted a 9–2–1 record with a .912 save percentage. Defenseman Linus Funk is on the roster, but did not finish the first Rookie Showcase game because of an injury. Both Christian Humphreys and Max Curran had impressive showings during the showcase and have a lot to prove in training camp.

AHL only contracts

Some familiar names appear on the roster for the Colorado Eagles, like their captain Jayson Megna. Forward Mark Senden, who had a career year with the Eagles. Defenseman Connor Kelley, who played two games for the Eagles last year, will take part in his first NHL camp, along with Hank Kempf. The seventh-round draft pick from 2023 by the Avalanche, Maros Jedlicka, after just shedding the non-contact sweater last week, will get a shot. Newcomers Tristen Nielson (2025 Calder Cup Champion) and Kyle Keyser will get hard looks from the Avalanche as well.

This will be the only chance that all the above names will get to show their stuff in front of the Avalanche management. There will be a lot of competition from all the players at camp, but there will be a fresh feeling in the building with Gabriel Landeskog taking part for the first time in three years. training camp begins on Thurs morning at 9 a.m. at the Family Sports Center and runs through Saturday.
