The Colorado Avalanche fell in overtime for the fifth straight time as the San Jose Sharks came back for the win. Taylor Makar played a great game for being on the fourth line but got little ice time. Colorado really needed to plug up the middle of the ice in their own defensive zone as they left shooters wide open. The Sharks won back-to-back games for the first time all year, with their record improving to 4–6–2, while the Avalanche still have only one regulation loss. Their record now stands at 7–1–5 with the 3–2 overtime loss.

Martin Necas, for the second day in a row, started the game out with a goal. On Saturday, Necas netted the goal within 30 seconds. He now has nine goals in 13 games and is among the league leaders in goals. This comes just days after signing an eight-year extension with the Avalanche. Afterward, he had a hard time producing anything after that, but if he can produce a goal like this every game, it will help.

Taylor Makar officially made his NHL debut on Saturday. He played 6:07 of time on ice and did not have an official shot on goal. But about halfway through the second period, Makar nearly had his first NHL goal. After a shot got through Yaroslav Askarov’s glove, Makar charged the net and got his stick between the goalie and the post. In an effort to get to the puck, Makar snapped his stick but almost had his first NHL goal. Taylor and Cale Makar would also be the first set of brothers to play in Avalanche sweaters. The last pair were Anton and Peter Stastny on April 2, 1989, as Quebec Nordiques.

Mackenzie Blackwood returned to the ice for the first time in 182 days. He has not played since his last game in the playoffs against the Dallas Stars. Considering that he did not have a training camp, he played well. He tracked the puck as well as he could, and his stamina was good. Blackwood saved 20 of 23 shots on goal and now will have until Tuesday to recover.
