T.J. Tynan is a one of those rare breeds. After a three-year absence away from the Colorado Avalanche, Tynan came back. At the opening of free agency, Tynan signed a one-year, two-way contract.
“I know the people in this organization and all [the people] in Denver here,” Tynan said. “I know what they’re all about. They’re all about winning and being competitive. And I loved it here, and obviously I was gone for a few years, but they put their trust in me and offered me a contract to come back. And I was happy to come back. I love playing here. I love playing in front of these fans, so I’m excited to come back and play here.”
Tynan was called up early in the season for the Avalanche, playing nine games. He would only tally one assist, his second in the NHL, on a Devon Toews goal against the Nashville Predators.

Most of Tynan’s play was in the AHL with the Eagles, where he finished fourth on the team in scoring. In 52 games played, Tynan finished with eight goals and 41 assists. He hit several career milestones over the season by surpassing 700 AHL games and 500 AHL assists. Tynan made a living for the Eagles by dishing the puck to other players to help get goals. But most of all, he was a force on the ice that everyone had to watch out for. Tynan may have been one of the smallest players, but if anyone went near the boards, Tynan let them know he was near.

The former captain of the Eagles had been nothing but impressive at the AHL level. He showed his leadership on and off the ice with the club, especially on the special teams. His impressive 15.1 shooting percentage was the second highest of his career. So when he was shooting, he was seeing the net. His speed into the zone surpasses most rookies, despite playing 12 years in the league. Tynan can beat even the youngest players to the corners to gain possession of the puck.

Tynan is currently playing with the Eagles in the Pacific Division Finals and has no points in four games. His contract will expire on July 1 when he will become a free agent.
