Finnish forward Juuso Parssinen is just another of the 50 players who rotated in and out of the Colorado Avalanche system throughout the 2024-25 season. Parssinen came in midway through the season, but was shipped out before he had much of a chance to get settled.
The 23-year-old started his season with the Nashville Predators. The Preds were the only team he’d known up until this season in his three-year career. In 15 games in the Music City, he had two goals and three assists. He averaged 12:13 in time on ice, the highest he would have this season.

Trade to Colorado
Parssinen was then dealt on December 27, 2024. Colorado got him, giving up Ondrej Pavel and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft. His first game came against the Winnipeg Jets on New Year’s Eve. He had an uneventful evening in 7:46 of ice time in his debut.
He ended up playing 22 games with the Avs, the most with all three of his teams this season. Parssinen had the same stat line as he did in Nashville, just with an additional assist. However, he did end with a +2 and the highest face-off percentage of his career at 55.8%.

Parssinen had been brought in as a potential wild card in the bottom six. He was a young forward in Colorado who didn’t have many of those. But he didn’t make quite the impact the front office expected him to. He was scratched in the final two games he was available for.
Trade to New York
In turn, he was traded for the second time in the season. With Calvin de Haan and two conditional draft picks, he was moved to the New York Rangers. In return, the Avalanche got Jimmy Vesey, Hank Kempf, and Ryan Lindgren on March 1.

Parssinen featured in 11 games at Madison Square Garden. He also scored two goals and had three assists. Similar to his time in Colorado, he struggled to find consistency and was scratched often.
However, the Rangers seemingly have faith in him. On May 2, he was signed to a two-year contract worth $1.25 million a year. He is also currently representing Team Finland at the World Championships. With the struggles New York had this season, anything they can do to right the ship will help. With some time, perhaps Parssinen can pull it together.
