For now, it appears rookie T.J. Hughes has made the roster for the Colorado Avalanche. The former captain of the Michigan Wolverines proved his case this preseason. In four preseason games, he had three goals (all in one game) and two assists. His four-point night on Friday against the Winnipeg Jets only helped him as well. While the Hobey Baker finalist could bring some unexpected offense in place of forward Gavin Brindley, who fell a little flat offensively last season.

Injuries may also contribute to Hughes making the squad for now as well. Taylor Makar left Saturday night’s preseason contest in the first period with an injury. Depending on his status, he may start the year on season-opening injured-reserve. Trent Miner, who has yet to take any shots, is still injured as well. It was reported by Evan Rawal that Zachary L’Heureux could be suffering from something too. Logan O’Connor was not participating in the practice on Sunday either.

The players whom the team has placed on waivers could clear by Monday, and the team could officially reassign them to the Eagles as well. Either way, with Hughes practicing on the top power play unit and the third line, the chances are high that he has made the team.
