Wyatt Aamodt saw his NHL debut against the Los Angeles Kings on April 12, 2025 this season. He again slotted into the lineup against the Anaheim Ducks the next night, where he scored his first NHL goal.

Aamodt has become one of the most dependable defensemen for the Colorado Eagles as of late. He led the AHL in plus/minus for most of the year, eventually finishing third in the league with a plus 32. The scrappy defenseman can play in every situation, but is key to the Eagles’ penalty killing unit. Aamodt will sacrifice his body to block five or six shots in one shift. And then go out and do it again.

“You definitely get the bruises,” Aamodt said in February. “But at the end of the day, that’s part of my job is blocking shots. And trying to be good and help our goalies out. So it’s more just being selfless and the team role. It’s not about how it feels after, it’s just part of the game and part of my job. So no problem doing it. Just like, so just trying to help out the guys.”

On top of playing a career high 69 games this season for the Eagles, Aamodt earned a contract extension in March. His two-year, two-way contract will start next season and avoided free agency over the summer.

The AHL veteran scored four goals and 13 assists this year for the Eagles. He could become vital next year for the Colorado Avalanche as a call-up. He has even played forward for the Eagles because he is that crucial to the team. Known as “Ammo” around the halls of Blue Arena, he can be serious when he needs to be but a goofball at other times.

Aamodt is already one of the fan favorites in Loveland, so it will be fun to watch the fans in Denver get to know him a little more. He is currently chasing a the Calder Cup with the Colorado Eagles who will play in the Division Finals starting May 16.
