Hopes were high for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev at the start of the season with the Colorado Avalanche. Going into a contract year, the hope was that he would perform well. That was definitely not the case. Among fans, there was a worry that goaltending was going to be an issue. Management held firm on the pair with confidence going into the year.
With the Avalanche
Georgiev did not start the year off that great with the Avalanche. He would lose five out of the first six games that he started for them. This fired up trade talks right at the start of the season. Goalie experts that were interviewed on the situation said that he seemed off. There was no confidence in his game at all. He easily let pucks from the blue line get past him.

In just 18 games for the Avalanche, Georgiev had career lows in almost every category. His 3.38 goals allowed average was the worst that he had seen since his rookie year. Failing to perform with the Avalanche led to his demise and a trade to the San Jose Sharks on December 9, 2024. The Avalanche traded Georgiev for goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, Givani Smith, and a 2027 draft pick. They would also include Nikolai Kovalenko and two draft picks in the deal.

With the Sharks
With the Sharks heading to the bottom, it got little better for the floundering Bulgarian. Georgiev would get 30 games with the Sharks and see victory in just seven of them. His stats continued to only get worse from the start of the season as well. He would allow 3.88 goals per game on average and have a .875 save percentage.

Georgiev will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The San Jose Sharks stated before the end of the season that they will not be offering him a contract.
